Rami 08 agosto A new Semester and a new StartHello everyone and sorry about the slow update to this blog!
So whats been happening ? Well , we started our 2nd semester here @ Vic,and all is going reasonably well. I am doing an InfoSystem Project paper, where we students get into groups of 4 and then a project for an external client gets assigned to every group.
Me and my group were given an Access Disability database that has to be linked to a website.
During our planning stage, I thought about it twice and decided that the best tool to use for this project is MS Visual Web Developer 2005. The ability to modify your data, create queries and integrate them into forms/dataGrids within MS-VWD in a short amount of time is reallllly IMPRESSIVE! So I managed to convince my team mates to go on and start learning MS-VWD, and we cant wait to finish the desgin stage and get into the exciting building stage.
In regard to my Microsoft Ambassadorial Role: We are promoting for the Student Day that is going to be in Wellington next month. Also, we are finalizing the prepration for our presentation on Visual Web Developer which is going to be in the next 10 days! I will post another entry once every thing is confirmed.
Regards,
Rami
29 maggio .Net PresentationWe have just done an introductory presentation to .Net at Victoria University. I thought it went ok,except for my demo that finally worked after 3 attempts of fixing silly errors!
It took about 45minutes to do, but it certainly took us hours of preps, hours of advertizing around and days of waiting for room booking to confirm our room.
This is me for the 1st semester, as I have to run and prepare for my exams that are waiting for me on 12,14&15 of June. Really unlucky schedule, but it`s never too late to get ready!
Tasks Done As Part Of MSA role:
Advertising for MS Orientation, MS presentation on Atlas & Visata, our presentation on .Net.
Inviting lecturers for MS Info Session on Visa & Office07.
Room Booking for the 1st 2 events, but i cant do it anymore since SIM director cant waste her time on me!
Answering MSDN AA quries, and believe me this has been really time consuming, coz up until now SIM students cant get MSDN AA softwares. Once I got an email saying "you have promised us to make windows XP available, I have been waiting for you for 6 weeks and I am still unable to get it..why did you lie to us" . Trust me I am doing my best to make them available, but I cant look after the whole distribution server myself. Because SIM IT staff found MSDN distribution very time-consuming , I did the following
Negotitated with the Library IT Services the possibility of making MSDN AA softwares available. They said:
" there will be a lot of adminstrative time spent on this, and we are not the owner of MSDN AA anyway". However, they said they`ll be in talks with Xiang.
Encouraging students to sign up for MSDN Connection. Result: 24 memebers so far, counting CompScience students.
Dealing with Microsoft prize winner... and a few more
Anyway, It has been a really challenging semester, but also fun. I hope all your exams go well, I will be having few late nights from tonight on!
Regards
Rami T.
14 maggio 2006-soccer world cupA huge excitement that comes once every 4 year, is less than a month away. Soccer has been my favourite sport since I was 5 years old. We played it everyday back home on the streets, even if the temperature was 50 degree !. So, you can see why I cant wait for the soccer world cup.
One unfortunate thing is that the games are around our final exams,so make sure you do the work 1st. For me, my exams are all over by the 15th, so thats not too bad, I`ll be left with another 3 weeks of enjoyenment!
I am going to give my support to Argentina as usual. Hopfully they can do something better this time.
Regards,
Rami 03 maggio Presentations....Hi guys, sorry about the pretty much dead blog, but trust me you wont have much time if you are in your final year of InfoSystems & accounting majors, it`s been a stressful semester! But i must say INFO341 is a paper thats worth taking, building databases with SQL200, creating Stored Procedures, triggers etc coool as. You also get taught ADO.NET, XML and VB.NET all in one course!!. I only wish we used SQL2005, but as my lecturer told me, the late release of SQL2005 lastyear made it hard to introduce it this semester, fair enough!!
so whats coming up:
Microsoft Presentation
Microsoft team is going to be on our campus on FRI 12TH MAY, time and location to be confirmed very soon.
Rami+Jeremy`s presentation
This should take place early next week if we can get a room booked. I should have a response from room booking officer by tomorrow!. We`ll be introducing the .Net frame work, and show a live demo of how to build a simple application in VB.net.
thats all 4 now:)

17 marzo Microsoft Presentation @ VicMicrosoft was present on Victoria University Campus Mon13/3-Wed15/3:
On Monday, we had 2 presentations, both went alright. a good number of student turned up for the MS Demo for the CompScience department. On Wed, it was the day for the School of Info Mgmt(SIM),seriously we couldnt accept more people in the lecture theatre because if was jammed full of students. There were students sitting on the aisle and even afew managed to sneak in and sit half a meter from the slide screen!
It was great to see that huge crowd repeating loud 'XBOX 360' 'WINDOWS VISTA' etc. it all went pretty well. I would say there were at least 100 students that turned up and managed to actually get in.
Many thanks to the MS crew, they did extremely well. Many thanks also to Jeremy for his help. And last but not least, thanks to our Faculty director Val for her much appreciated assistance.
see attached photo 08 marzo So far...so good..?so what is happening here in Wellington?
MICROSOFT on campus:
Yes, MS team will be giving presentations Mon (Mar/13) - Wed. There will be a few sessions, some will be given in the CompScience department and others will be @ the SIM. Posters will be around hopefully from TODAY if i get confirmation regarding times & exact seminar rooms!
Imagine Cup:
You last oppurtunity to sumbit your SHORT-FILM work
I am going to give it my best shot,I have gotta sit down and put my idea in less than 500 words, draw the storyboard (not sure whats the prettiest way to do it,but i`ll figure out something) and then submit the work. Round 2 will require my video if I pass round 1.
Thats all for now, but certainly more to come next week!!
Take it easy
